From the Earth

Apples and Grapes

Earthy textues

This painting appears in International Artist Magazine, June/July 2015, in my 8-page article “Making Colors Pop," that begins on page 108.

This is a painting with a primal, open composition that is as natural as the subject matter.  The theme is earthy textures: the beautiful, hard, pitted surface of the stoneware provides contrast to the firm but edible apples and the soft grapes.  The repeated round/oval shapes, and the warm red/yellow/green color scheme, hold the composition in a friendly embrace.  The image is open to the world.  There is no barrier between viewer and viewed, no distancing of the subject from the world.  The viewer intuitively understands that one could reach in, pluck an apple, and stroll away, humming.
